Bunbury tourism industry boosted with events support

  • Regional Events Scheme to help support the Bunbury tourism industry on the road to recovery after these unprecedented times
  • McGowan Government supporting three events in Bunbury

The Bunbury tourism industry is focused on the road to recovery with the McGowan Government supporting local events through the Regional Events Scheme.

$1 million has been invested for over 70 regional events across Western Australia in the 2020-21 round of the Regional Events Scheme.

This includes three events in Bunbury including:

  • WA State Road Cycling Championships, 3-4 October 2020
  • Bunbury Fringe 2021, 5-13 February 2021
  • Action Sports Games, 6-8 March 2021

The funding support follows the State Government’s moves to lift regional borders, meaning people from across the State can now visit Bunbury.

Due to potential future impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, successful funding applicants for the 2020-2021 Scheme have been given the option of holding their event at any time up until 31 December 2021.

“Tourism and events have really worn the brunt of the impact of the COVID 19 crisis so this funding is important to start to reactivate the sector.

“It is important we are able to establish certainty for the tourism industry and these funding announcements will help.

“Events are a great hook to bring visitors to our town so at a time when we are encouraging people to get out and explore our own State, these funded events will be great attractions for Bunbury.

“The vibrancy these events bring to our region will be especially appreciated after the unprecedented quiet period we experienced during the pandemic.”
